A story that takes place during or after a conflict is called a "Books about War" or "military fiction." It is a work of fiction in which the primary action takes place on a battlefield, or in a civilian setting (or home front), where the characters are preoccupied with the preparations for, suffering the effects of, or recovering from war. Alternatively, the action may take place in a military setting. There are a lot of historical novels that are about battle.
