Racism in schools is a complex issue, and a comprehensive approach to addressing it is needed. A framework for rethinking racism in schools should start by recognizing and understanding the many different forms of racism, including structural racism, institutional racism, and interpersonal racism. This understanding should be used to inform policies and practices in the school environment that address both individual and systemic forms of racism. These policies and practices should be coupled with an emphasis on cultural competency and the development of an inclusive school culture that is responsive to the needs of all students. Additionally, educators and administrators should engage in ongoing self-reflection and professional learning to better understand their own biases and how these might impact how they interact with students. Finally, the school should take a proactive approach to create a safe and welcoming environment for all students, including those from racially and culturally diverse backgrounds.Racism in schools is a complex issue, and a comprehensive approach to addressing it is needed.
