Especially in this time of pandemic, it is very easy for us to fall into negative emotions, due to confinement, lack of contact with people and limitations, in general.
That is why it is very important to take care of our diet and avoid certain types of food that can make us feel sad. Here we tell you what they are and why they produce this effect.
PROCESSED FOODS THAT AFFECT YOUR MOOD
From a nutritional point of view, mood swings are a symptom of exhaustion that could be related to low blood sugar. When it decreases, the brain and nervous system are affected.
This can also occur due to the deficiency of omega-3 fatty acids, a substance necessary for mental health and avoiding depression problems.
Next, we share with you the list of processed foods that affect your mood:
• Sweeteners: the abusive intake of artificial sweeteners slows the production of serotonin and dopamine, which translates into a lack of feeling of well-being. Not only that: these can cause anxiety attacks and feelings of sadness.
• Fatty meats: these contain harmful chemicals, which cause the development of inflammation and cardiovascular diseases that also affect the nervous system.
• Fried food: foods that contain saturated fats in a large proportion help to develop depressive behaviors by producing a decrease in the production of serotonin.
• High-fat dairy: Some types of milk-based cheese spreads, yogurts, and desserts are linked to depressive symptoms.
• Refined cereals: Too much flour and white bread increases the possibility of feeling sad and discouraged in the long run.
• Soft drinks: gas and sugar increase the chances of having a depressive period.
• Alcohol: as long as its consumption is abused for a long period, it interferes with receptors in the nervous system and can help to fall into a state of depression.
Healthy ageing is about creating the environments and opportunities that enable people to be and do what they value throughout their lives. Everybody can experience healthy ageing. Being free of disease or infirmity is not a requirement for healthy ageing, as many older adults have one or more health conditions that, when well controlled, have little influence on their wellbeing.
