Blood sugar, also called "glucose," is the main sugar found in your blood. This comes from the food you eat and is your main source of energy. Your blood carries glucose to all the cells in your body to be used for energy. The diabetes is a disease characterized by high levels of blood sugar. Over time, this can cause serious problems. Even if a person does not have diabetes, they can also have health problems if their blood sugar is too low or too high. Keeping a plan for meals, activities, and medications can help regulate blood sugar. If you have diabetes, it is important to keep your blood sugar at a certain level. You may need to measure it several times a day. Your healthcare provider will also do a test called A1c that looks at your average blood sugar over the past three months. If the sugar is too high, you may need to take medicine and / or follow a special diet.
