Mechanical massage chairs have knobs that travel around a track or pockets of air that inflate and deflate to apply pressure, similar to how a massage therapist's hands knead. The most simplistic ones target a single region, such as the lower back, while others cover the entire body. Some are freestanding and cost a few thousand dollars. They are around the size and weight of a young rhinoceros. Others are compact enough to fit in a carry-on suitcase and are much less expensive.
Osaki OS-Champ massage chair
The Osaki OS-Champ is the massage chairs king. Our testers gave it a 4 out of 5 ranking for overall results, which was only surpassed by our runner-up select.

The OS-Champ wraps you in buttery-soft upholstery, reclines your body so you can see outer space (or at least the ceiling), and massages your spine, shoulders, back, arms, thighs, calves, and feet from head to toe. The heating function on this massage chair is more powerful than any other model we reviewed, and it comes with a variety of massage types and intensity settings. The OS-Champ is also comfortable, durable, and well-made, if not particularly attractive.
